The Institute of Organic Synthesis (OSI) of Latvia, in collaboration with the leading scientific institutions of Latvia, announces the first Research and Innovation Project (RIP) competition within the framework of the "Biomedicine and Photonics Research Platform for the Creation of Innovative Products" ("BioPhoT"). The deadline for submission of applications is May 8, 2025.

The competition offers a total of 6 million euros for research and innovation projects in the fields of biomedicine, medical technologies, pharmaceuticals, photonics, smart materials, and engineering systems within the RIS3 framework. In the case of a large number of highly valued applications, the "BioPhoT" project evaluation group may decide to allocate additional funding of up to 2 million euros.

Each RIP can receive up to 200,000 euros in funding. Projects must be implemented within 12 months, with the possibility of extending the term by 3 months without additional funding.

The applicant must be a scientific institution. The competition rules and its annexes can be found on the "BioPhoT" website at www.biophot.lv, as well as on the websites of OSI, the leading partner of "BioPhoT," and its collaborators.

An informational seminar about applying for the competition, collaboration opportunities with mentors, and discussions of frequently asked questions will be held on April 10 at 10:00 AM in the conference hall of the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science at Dzērbenes Street 14, and online. More information about the event and registration is available at www.biophot.lv.

Mentor consultations are available during the preparation of RIP applications. To apply for consultations, fill out the application form and send it to the email address biophot@osi.lv.

"BioPhoT" is coordinated by OSI and implemented by the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, the Latvian Biomedicine Research and Study Center, the University of Latvia, the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia, the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry, the Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment Research Institute "BIOR," Riga Stradiņš University, and Riga Technical University.
