Applications are open until 28 October for the three-day “Climathon 2026” hackathon, where representatives from various fields will combine their knowledge, experience and ideas to seek practical and innovative solutions to environmental and urban challenges. The hackathon will take place at Riga Technical University (RTU) from 30 October to 1 November, bringing together people who want to promote sustainable development and turn ideas into solutions with real impact.

Anyone is invited to apply, either individually or as part of a team. Participants do not need to have a pre-prepared idea or a specific specialisation. Professional experience and technical knowledge can be just as valuable as creativity and curiosity.

Over three intensive days, participants will work in teams to tackle real-world challenges, develop innovative and sustainable ideas, and present them to a professional jury.

This year, the challenges will be provided by the company “Sadales tīkls”, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology community “EIT Urban Mobility”, and “Latvijas Zaļais punkts”. The challenges will offer participants an opportunity to look at environmental and urban issues from different perspectives and work together to find solutions for a more sustainable future.

Hackathon participants will compete for prizes and the opportunity to further develop their ideas. The total prize fund is 4,500 euros, with 1,500 euros allocated to each challenge for the further development and implementation of ideas.

On the evening of 31 October, an informal event will be held for “Climathon 2026” participants, start-up founders, innovators and ecosystem experts, where networking, making new contacts and exchanging ideas will be combined with music and dancing.

The hackathon organisers also invite sustainability and entrepreneurship experts who would like to contribute to the event to collaborate. Those interested are invited to contact the event coordinators Kristiāns Kreinbergs (Kristians.Kreinbergs@rtu.lv) and Anna Ločmele (Anna.Locmele@rtu.lv).

“Climathon 2026” is organised by RTU and the science university accelerator “UniLab”. The hackathon is supported by the EIT knowledge and innovation community “Climate KIC”, the companies and brands “Rocket Bean”, “Nestlé”, “Go Botanicals”, “Brumo” and “AI Studio”, RTU Riga Business School, and the Baltic technology and start-up community “TechChill”. The event is co-financed by the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency.
