On September 3-4, 2024, Vilnius (Lithuania) will host the "Road to the Future" conference, organized by the Baltic Road Association. The event will bring together industry experts, decision-makers, researchers, and business leaders from across the Baltics and Europe to discuss innovations and challenges shaping the future of the road sector. The conference is held every four years in one of the three Baltic countries. The previous edition was organized by Latvian State Roads (LVC) and took place on August 23-24, 2021, in Riga under pandemic restrictions, making it an online event.

"Anyone working in the road sector today understands that future planning requires a broad perspective. Roads built today must serve for decades, not just a few years. At the conference, we will explore new technologies, changes in transport systems, economic and environmental factors, and, most importantly, the future of road networks," said Martynas Gedaminskas, Head of the Infrastructure and Development Group at Via Lietuva and Chairman of the Baltic Road Association Council.

The conference will be held at the Litexpo Exhibition and Conference Center. The first two days will feature presentations and discussions, followed by a technical tour on September 5, showcasing Lithuania’s largest road infrastructure projects. For over 30 years, scientists have been an integral part of the conference, and this year is no exception. Researchers are invited to apply for participation and submit their topics for review.

The event will also feature one of Sweden’s most renowned economists, writer, and futurist Kjell A. Nordström, who will examine how road networks, travel, and freight transport will evolve in the coming years. Additionally, urban planning expert Dr. Alexander Stole will discuss the future of urban development and how cities will adapt to new transportation challenges. José Viegas, former Secretary-General of the International Transport Forum, will provide insights into transport innovations and mobility policies shaping the industry.

The Baltic Road Association, comprising Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, was founded in 1932. Its activities were suspended during World War II but were revived in 1989.
