The national research data repository DataverseLV has been launched in Latvia – a secure and user-friendly digital platform designed for the long-term storage, sharing, and use of research data. The new tool is available to researchers from all Latvian scientific institutions, as well as Latvian-origin researchers working abroad.

The initiative is implemented by the Higher Education and Science Information Technology Shared Service Centre. It provides a platform where researchers can preserve their data in the long term and make them accessible to other scientists and the public, thus strengthening the development of open science in Latvia.

Researchers also have access to the Latvian Data Curators Network, which assists in preparing datasets for deposit in the repository and provides consultations on effective usage.

The DataverseLV team continues to actively develop the repository to ensure its sustainability and integration into international research infrastructures.

Since its launch, DataverseLV has:

  • Become an official DataCite partner, allowing datasets to be assigned DOI identifiers, thus ensuring unique and permanent identifiers that improve dataset availability and findability, and facilitate citation and integration with publications.

  • Been included in the re3data.org registry of research data repositories, increasing international visibility (e.g., in platforms such as Argos) and enhancing repository reliability.

  • Been listed in the official registry of installations maintained by the developers of the Dataverse software (Harvard University’s Dataverse Project), promoting international recognition and integration into the global Dataverse repository community.

  • Been integrated into the OpenAIRE Explore search engine, which aggregates over 82 million datasets and other research-related resources. This integration enables datasets published in DataverseLV to be discoverable also via the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) search tool.

  • Joined the FIDELIS project with the aim of creating a new network of trusted European digital repositories. Participation fosters DataverseLV’s integration with various European-level initiatives and provides opportunities to adopt best practices in repository management in Latvia.

  • Actively been working toward obtaining the CoreTrustSeal, which confirms that the repository meets international standards for data management and long-term preservation. This enhances trust, ensures sustainability, and provides researchers with secure and high-quality data storage.

The Higher Education and Science Information Technology Shared Service Centre invites Latvian researchers to use the DataverseLV platform for long-term storage and publication of research data, thereby strengthening the culture of open science in Latvia.
