On Saturday, August 16, in Liepāja, the youth opportunities festival KOPUMS / Mad Liepāja will take place – one of the main events of Latvia’s Youth Capital 2025. On this day, the Latvian Council of Science together with the science communication platform researchLatvia, the Association of Young Scientists of Latvia, and RTU Liepāja Academy will invite young people to enter the Science Bubble – a creative and interactive environment where science becomes an adventure you can see, feel, and try for yourself.

Date: August 16, 2025. Time: 12:00 -18:00. Place: Jūrmalas Park, Skate Park Area, Liepāja.

The Science Bubble is an interactive space created by the Latvian Council of Science that serves as a bridge between science and young people. It is a place where science steps out of the laboratory and meets people where they are – on the street, in the park, or at a festival.

In the Science Bubble, you can not only watch and listen, but also participate – try and experience. It’s an opportunity to see how scientific discoveries and research impact our daily lives – from digital security and robotics to health and everyday processes that would not be possible without science.

The Science Bubble is designed to make science understandable, engaging, and inspiring, because personal experience helps young people see themselves as future researchers, engineers, inventors, or simply as people who understand and value the importance of science.

Science is everywhere – in our phones, transport, medicine, sports, and art. But for young people to see and understand how exciting and useful it is, they need to meet science in real life! With young people, science becomes an experience – something you can touch, try, and feel. It encourages asking questions, thinking, and creating, and this is exactly how the next scientists, inventors, and creative minds who will shape our future are born,” says Lauma Muižniece, Director of the Latvian Council of Science

COME AND FIND OUT MORE!
  • What happens to our minds in the digital age?

The digital age gives us many opportunities, but sometimes it also causes stress and anxiety. Come and take part in the RTU Liepāja Digital Anxiety Test, and together we’ll find out – do digital technologies and their development affect you too?

  • Where art meets robotics

Have you ever seen a robot draw a person’s portrait? AI-controlled robotic arms will draw your caricature in just a few minutes. This is your chance to see and experience how technology and art work together – and you are the main character of the event.

  • A career in science – could it be for me?

If you’re thinking about the future but aren’t sure whether science is for you, this is the place to be. Step into the Science Bubble and see how present science is in our everyday lives. Science can also be an exciting career choice, and you’ll be able to see for yourself by learning about the achievements of Latvia’s young scientists and discovering where a scientist’s journey begins!

  • Step into another reality

Put on virtual reality goggles and go on a 3D journey through Liepāja and the Karosta Prison – without leaving the festival grounds. Thanks to RTU Liepāja’s technology, you’ll get to see the city from a completely different perspective.

  • Vitamin Ū – how water becomes your personal resource

Do you know the journey water takes before it reaches your glass? In this activity, you’ll become a water engineer – building your own “pipe person” from real pipes and valves. The science communication platform researchLatvia and Vitamin Ū will help you learn how the city’s water supply works and why clean water is important for all of us.

The festival will feature more than 50 organisations offering a diverse programme of discussions, workshops, concerts, sports activities, and creative masterclasses.

More information about the festival’s programme and events is available on the Liepāja Municipality website.

This event is part of Latvia’s Youth Capital 2025 – Liepāja, and activities are implemented within the framework of the Ministry of Education and Science’s Youth Policy State Programme 2024–2026.
