The Latvian Council of Science (LCS), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES), informs that the deadline for completing the survey on the research environment in Latvia has been extended until 16 November 2026. The extended deadline provides an opportunity to participate also for those members of the scientific community who have not yet had the chance to share their experience.
The LCS and the Ministry of Education and Science thank everyone who has already taken the time to complete the survey. Every response is important in order to gain as broad an understanding as possible of the research environment in Latvia, identify the day-to-day challenges faced by researchers, and determine the improvements needed.
The survey covers various aspects of research work, including access to infrastructure and necessary resources, working conditions, career development, and administrative processes. It also includes questions on international cooperation, the practical application of research results, open science, and science communication.
The responses received will help policymakers in the sector make informed decisions, reduce the administrative burden, and adapt support mechanisms to the needs of researchers.
We invite research personnel who have not yet participated in the survey to complete the questionnaire by 16 November 2026.
Completing the questionnaire takes approximately 20–25 minutes. The survey is anonymous, and the data collected will be processed and published only in aggregated form, without disclosing respondents’ names or data from specific institutions. The survey is available in Latvian and English.
The LCS and the Ministry of Education and Science invite higher education institutions, scientific institutions and other organisations to share the information so that the opportunity to participate in the survey reaches as broad a section of Latvia’s scientific community as possible.
If you have any questions, please contact us at aptauja@lzp.gov.lv.
Thank you for your responsiveness and contribution to the development of science in Latvia!
The survey is being conducted within the framework of the EU-funded project “More Effective and Smarter Implementation and Management of Latvia’s Science Policy”
