Until September 30, researchers in Latvia are invited by the University of Latvia (LU), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science, to complete an anonymous survey on academic integrity and responsible research. The study aims to investigate how Latvian researchers understand the fundamental principles of academic integrity and how these norms are applied in their day-to-day research activities.

The results of the study will make a significant contribution toward understanding what kind of support Latvian scientists and research institutions need to promote a culture of responsible research.

“The purpose of this study is to explore Latvian researchers’ understanding of responsible research practice, its key principles, and how these norms are implemented in real-life research. A similar survey has been conducted in several neighbouring countries, such as Lithuania, Estonia, and Finland, so this research will also allow comparisons between the data collected in Latvia and other countries, helping to identify both common trends and specific differences. We understand that the new academic semester is just beginning for many so that we will be very grateful for every completed questionnaire,” said Dr. Phil. Ivars Neiders, lead researcher at the LU Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine (KPMI).

Researchers are inviting the Latvian academic community to fill out the anonymous questionnaire. It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and the responses will only be used in aggregated form. Respondents will not be identifiable.

The questionnaire is available online and can be completed until September 30:

The UL Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee has approved the study.

For questions, please get in touch with the study organisers:

  • Dr. sc. soc. Signe Mežinska, Associate Professor at the LU Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, Lead Researcher at LU KPMI: signe.mezinska@lu.lv

Participation in the study will help create a transparent, fair, and internationally trusted research environment in Latvia. Every opinion matters in strengthening academic integrity and ensuring the future development of responsible research.
