Latvian Council of Science announces the fourth call for research proposals within the framework of Activity 1.1.1.9 “Post-doctoral Research” under the European Union Cohesion Policy Programme for 2021–2027, Specific Objective 1.1.1 – for industrial research applications related to economic activity.

The aim of the call is to develop the skills of early-career researchers and increase scientific capacity by providing career-start opportunities in scientific institutions and companies, as well as to promote the development of research competencies and increase the number of qualified specialists in Latvia.

Submission deadline for research proposals: from 9 February 2025 to 31 May 2026
Total available funding for the call: EUR 1,923,600
Maximum funding per research proposal: EUR 192,360
Duration of project implementation: up to 36 months, but not later than 30 June 2029
Type of call: open call for research proposals
Type of research proposal: industrial research related to economic activity

Who can apply:

  • A merchant registered in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia (micro, small, medium, or large)
  • A scientific institution that does not meet the definition of a research organisation
  • A scientific institution that meets the definition of a research organisation, if the research is implemented as part of economic activity

A research proposal may be implemented individually or in partnership with another Latvian or foreign institution or company that provides admission of the postdoctoral researcher, infrastructure, or human resources.

Funding intensity:

For industrial research:

  • 70% – micro and small enterprises
  • 60% – medium enterprises
  • 50% – large enterprises

The support intensity may be increased up to 80% if public accessibility of research results is ensured (conferences, repositories, open-source software, etc.).

Supported research areas (according to Latvia’s Smart Specialisation Strategy):

  • Knowledge-intensive bioeconomy
  • Biomedicine, medical technologies, pharmaceuticals
  • Photonics and smart materials, technologies and engineering systems
  • Smart energy and mobility
  • Information and communication technologies

Submission procedure:

Research proposals must be submitted electronically in the Postdoctoral Research Information System:
https://Postdoc.lzp.gov.lv

Access to the system must be obtained before submission by signing a user agreement at least two weeks before the submission deadline. More information and document templates are available in the Postdoctoral Research Programme section.

Attachments “Scientific Description” and “Postdoctoral Researcher’s CV” must be prepared in English; all other documents must be prepared in Latvian.

During the submission period, proposals will be accepted continuously and evaluated in four interim stages or until the allocated funding is exhausted:

  • Interim stage: 28 February 2026
  • Interim stage: 31 March 2026
  • Interim stage: 30 April 2026
  • Interim stage: 31 May 2026

The Latvian Council of Science reserves the right to stop accepting applications before 31 May 2026 if the allocated funding has been fully used.
