10 Scientist Teams to Represent Latvia at The “Hello Tomorrow Global Summit 2026

The biomedical and photonics research platform “BioPhoT”, in collaboration with “Hello Tomorrow” international experts, has selected 10 strong BioPhoT research teams through a competitive process. On 11–12 June in Amsterdam, these teams will represent Latvia at one of the world’s most significant deep‑tech events  – “Hello Tomorrow Global Summit 2026”.

"More than 25 research project applications were submitted for the competition. After evaluating all submissions, an international jury — including experts from Hello Tomorrow — selected eight BioPhoT research and innovation project teams that most convincingly demonstrate the global competitiveness of their technologies. Participation in such an event is a strategically important opportunity for Latvian science and innovation to position itself on the global stage," says Andris Baumanis, head of the project selection and mentoring process.

The delegation includes representatives from leading Latvian research institutions and universities, each presenting their respective projects:

The delegation will also be joined by the winners of the BioPhoT Industry Day, held on 26 January — Sergejs Gaidukovs with the project “Robust EMI Protection for High‑Integrity Cybersecurity Solutions” (RTU) and Kristaps Kļaviņš with the project “Detection and Monitoring of Clinically Relevant Biomarkers Using Sweat Analysis (SwyCard)” (RTU).

Participation in the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit 2026 is a testament to the fact that Latvian research and innovation can compete at an international level. It is not only an opportunity to showcase technological achievements, but also a strategic step toward transforming research ideas into commercially viable solutions, with particular focus on high value‑added fields such as biomedicine, medical technologies, photonics, smart materials, and engineering.

Participation in the event will enable the teams to build new strategic partnerships, as well as identify opportunities for investment attraction and export. International visibility at such events is a crucial instrument for turning Latvian innovations into global success stories.

The BioPhoT platform will participate in the event in cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) and the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency (RITA), jointly obtaining the special Hello Tomorrow “Visionary Partner” status. This provides an opportunity to more prominently position Latvia’s deep‑tech ecosystem, its participants, and its ambitions. A diverse programme is planned at the stand, with the main goal of presenting Latvia’s scientific and technological achievements to an international audience, establishing new collaboration contacts, and attracting investor interest.

The delegation’s teams will also have the opportunity to take part in the exclusive Investor Day, which brings together leading deep‑tech investors and industry leaders. Participation is limited and, in this case, made possible through the partnership between BioPhoT and Hello Tomorrow.

In addition to the BioPhoT teams, the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit 2026 will also gather a broader Latvian research delegation, including representatives of BioPhoT partner organisations, further strengthening the international visibility of Latvia’s innovation ecosystem.

The project “Biomedical and Photonics Research Platform for the Creation of Innovative Products” (BioPhoT) is implemented under the leadership of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, together with the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, the University of Latvia, the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia, the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry, the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment “BIOR”, Riga Stradiņš University, and Riga Technical University.

Project No. IVPP‑EM‑Inovācija‑2024/1‑0002 “Biomedical and Photonics Research Platform for the Creation of Innovative Products (BioPhoT)” is implemented within the long‑term national research programme “Innovation Fund – Long‑Term Research Programme”, financed by the Ministry of Economics.
